After seeing these cute peppermint trays we featured byTutto Bella,I wanted to find a way to make it a stand (I have a big obsession with anything on a stand and collect cake stands). Candy canes make the perfect holder! You can make these cute peppermint cupcake stands with just a few simple items! Set them on dessert tables or serve your holiday dessert on its own unique little cupcake stand!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
4 regular candy canes
Christmas ribbon
4-inch cookie cutter
peppermint candies (unwrapped)
WHAT TO DO
1. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper and preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
2. Spray the inside of your cookie cutter with cooking spray and set on parchment paper.
3. Fill the cutter with peppermints. Bake for 6-8 minutes (as it starts to melt, it goes fast so watch carefully).
4. Let cool several minutes then carefully push out of cutter.
5. Use adhesive glue, hot glue, and tape to hold candy canes together. We used a bit of tape around the top and it barely showed. Tie holiday ribbon around the candy canes.
6. Use a drop of hot glue to adhere the round disk to the candy cane stand. Enjoy!

This is so cute!! Do you think you could make the stand any bigger or would it be too heavy for the candy canes?

Hi Erin! I think it would be too heavy for the candy canes UNLESS you find those big candy canes that are more specialty-type. Other than THAT…you could also make 3 of the candy cane “stands” THEN put a larger round peppermint tray on top, that way it has more support. :)
I tired melting the balls and they never melted and they were not shiny. I bought a tub of Bob’s soft peppermint balls should I have used something else? Will peppermint candies work do you think?

I made one to hold a santa face cake made in a heart shape cake pan I didnt use a sealand i used sara wrap over the top and used 4 sets ofthe legs underneath the bace was so awesome i gavwe it to the drs that saved my life… ty

Such a lovely idea, but you could use hot sugar syrup to fix everything together and then it would be edible. I hate to waste food. You could secure the candy canes with a ribbon as shown. Merry Christmas

What brand of peppermint candies did you use for this project? The pictured mints do not look like the Brach’s Star Brites Peppermint Starlight Mints described in your peppermint trays tutorial. Fabulous idea!

I am just now seeing this and can’t wait to make some for Christmas this year, how clever. I too collect cake stands and love to use them for my Christmas party and also throughout the year for any caterings I might do through the year. I cater on the side and love stacking them and collecting them.

I had a terrible time putting the tray on the candy canes, it was not straight. I filed down the candy canes, but it still did not look right. What is a good way to flatten out the canes to mount the tray?

Hi Wilma! You could potentially try hot glue to create a little layer and set the top down onto it while it’s still warm so you can manipulate it straight, does this make sense? :)

I just made some but am having a terrible time getting them out of the cookie cutter – they keep breaking! Any suggestions?

Could you spray this with something like polyurethane to keep it from being sticky? That way you could use it over and over.

I’v made a lot to give for Christmas to my elderly people at church. But, I cannot get the hot glue to stick to the “table top” ad legs. Suggestions??

Shirley, I haven’t had that issue before. Are you in a very humid environment? Aka is the peppermint sticky? That may cause an issue, but I haven’t had an issue with it. I’m sorry!
