🥘 New England Lobster Roll Ingredients
Once you have your cooked lobster meat, the rest of the ingredients are pretty common and easy to prepare. You can even use good-quality frozen lobster meat in a pinch!
- Lobster Meat - 1½pounds (about 3½ cups) of cookedlobster meatchopped into ¾-inch pieces.
- Mayonnaise - ⅓cup ofmayonnaise(good quality mayo like Duke's, Hellman's, or Best Foods).
- Lemon Juice - 1tablespoon oflemon juice(freshly squeezed is best).
- Celery - ¼cup of finely chopped celery or acelery substitute(use the tender inner ribs of celery or celery hearts).
- Chives - 1tablespoon of finely choppedchives.
- Salt & Pepper - ¼teaspoon ofboth salt & pepper(to taste).
- Hot Sauce (optional) - 1splashof your favorite hot saucefor extra flavor.
- Butter - 2tablespoons of melted butter or abutter substitutefor toasting the buns.
- Hot Dog Buns - 4hot dog buns or hoagie rolls split down the middle.
- Lettuce (optional) - 4leaves oflettucefor serving. I used butter lettuce.

🔪 How To Make A New England Lobster Roll
Once you quickly whip up some lobster salad, assembling the sandwiches is easy! To get started, you'll need your measuring utensils, a mixing bowl, a silicone spatula, and a frying pan.
This makes 4 lobster rolls if using hot dog buns. You can always make larger rolls on larger buns!
- Make lobster salad. In a large mixing bowl, gently stir together1 ½ pounds of cooked lobster meat,⅓ cup of mayonnaise,1 tablespoon of lemon juice,¼ cup of diced celery,1 tablespoon of chives,¼ teaspoon of both salt & pepper(to taste), and the optional1 splash of hot sauceif using.
- Chill (optional). You can assemble your lobster rolls immediately, but ideally, you want to cover and chill the lobster salad for at least 30 minutes(up to 4 hours)to let the flavors marry.
- Toast the buns. Brush2 tablespoons of melted butteron both sides of4 hot dog buns or hoagie rollsand toast the bread in a frying pan over medium heat until lightly golden.
- Assemble and serve. Assemble your lobster rolls by putting one of the4 leaves of lettucein each bun, if using, and portioning out the lobster salad into each toasted bun. Serve right away.
Creamy Southern coleslaw or homemade potato chips are classic sides to enjoy with a lobster roll. A Caesar salad would be tasty, too! Enjoy!
