Growing up, my favorite part of the chicken were drumsticks. I’ve made my fair share of them over the years, from grilled, oven roasted, lollipops and the latest were butterflied chicken drumsticks. Wanted to change it up a bit and instead of making a hot sauce, I made chicken drumsticks in Alabama white sauce. Wow, were they amazing! The grilled BBQ flavor from the meat along with the creamy tangy sauce was the perfect combo.

step 1: How to butterfly chicken drumsticks.
Butterflying drumsticks is easier than it may look. Slice the meat around the bone without cutting if off completely. Press down on the meat and the chicken should easily spread open resembling wings.
Once you’ve completed this step, season with your favorite BBQ seasoning and get it on the grill. I used an all purpose seasoning from Meat Church Holy Gospel which is a great blend of spices designed to accent any protein.
Step 2: How to grill the perfect chicken drumstick
Preheat the grill to 400 degrees and set it for direct heat. Once the grill is to temp, place the drumsticks on the grates and flip every few minutes until you get some nice color on the meat.
Once the butterflied chicken drumsticks reach 175 degrees internal temp, remove them off the grill and let them rest for 10-15 minutes.
Step 3: How to make Alabama White Sauce.
The sauce is what makes these chicken drumsticks in Alabama white sauce what they are. This sauce is everything! It takes an ordinary chicken recipe to new heights. Best of all, it’s not spicy therefore enjoyed by all age groups!
In a mixing bowl, add mayo, apple cider vinegar, dijon mustard, hot sauce, cayenne pepper, brown sugar, horseradish and honey or agave. Mix the ingredients together until you get a nice smooth consistency.
Before serving, dunk the butterflied chicken drumsticks meat side down in the sauce. Enjoy!
