What To Do With Leftover Sausage Egg Casserole

If you have leftover casserole, simply place it in an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It will be good for a few days.

You can pop your leftovers in the microwave to reheat them, or place them in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for ten minutes or so.

Reheating leftover casserole in the oven helps it to keep it’s crispy base.

This recipe is intended to be made ahead of time, but just how far ahead of time can you make it? Quite a bit!

The uncooked casserole can be made and sitting in the fridge for a couple of days before you bake it.

Need more time than that? Simply make the casserole, cook it, and then pop it in the freezer where it can last for months.

When you need a quick breakfast dish, pull it out, let it thaw, then pop it in the oven until it’s warm through.

Top Tips For Best Results

  • For extra flavor, use maple syrup flavored breakfast sausage. It adds just a hint of that syrup taste, without your children wanting to douse the whole casserole with it.
  • Add a spoonful of sour cream to your egg mixture. This helps to keep your casserole moist, and adds just a bit of tanginess.

  • Your egg mixture will be more hom*ogeneous if you let your eggs come up to room temperature before starting to beat them.
  • Everyone’s oven is different. If you find your casserole tends to get too brown too quick along the edges, cover it with aluminum foil when you first put it in the oven and remove it halfway through the baking time.
  • Egg bakes tend to stick to the edges of the pan, even if you spray it with nonstick cooking spray beforehand. For casserole pieces that come out easily, swap your vegetable oil or cooking spray for a solid fat. Vegetable shortening, butter, or saved bacon grease are perfect for this.
